Key Features

Proprietary low-drag cross-section — The Hurricane Mast does not use a standard NACA 0016 profile. Phantom's hydrodynamic team developed a proprietary section optimized specifically for the speed range and surface-piercing angle of downwind foiling. The result is measurably less drag through the water surface during touch-and-go moments and significantly reduced spray generation at speed — both of which translate directly into more energy available for the next pump and the next connection.

Torsional rigidity — zero flex policy — In downwind riding, mast flex is the enemy of connection. Every degree of torsional give between the board and the wing is a degree of delayed response when the rider needs to react to a shifting swell. The Hurricane Mast — in both editions — is engineered to a zero-perceptible-flex standard in the torsion axis. What the rider's feet ask for, the foil delivers. Immediately.

Full titanium M6 fastener set — Every connection point on the Hurricane Mast — board mount, fuselage plate — is secured with titanium fasteners. Immune to salt water corrosion, immune to galvanic reaction with carbon or aluminum, and immune to the progressive seizing that eventually destroys stainless steel bolts in marine environments.

Multi-axis carbon layup — Carbon Edition — The carbon fiber schedule in the Carbon Edition was developed and tested over 18 months of downwind sessions in Hawaii and the Canary Islands. The layup sequence prioritizes torsional stiffness in the load axis while maintaining sufficient impact resistance to survive the inevitable contact with water, boards, and reefs that comes with committed open-ocean riding. It is not a standard sporting goods carbon layup. It is a downwind-specific engineering solution.

Precision CNC machining on both editions — Carbon Hurricane Masts are finished to ±0.05 mm dimensional tolerance across all connection surfaces. The US box plate sits flush, the fuselage plate engages without play, and the entire assembly locks into a single rigid structure with no rattle, no vibration transmission, and no progressive loosening under cyclic load.
